Plastic Surgeon Jailed for Life for Attempted Murder of Colleague

Peter Brooks, Plastic Surgeon, Receives Life Sentence for Attempted Murder

Jonathan Peter Brooks, a 61-year-old plastic surgeon specializing in burn treatments, has been sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 22 years for the attempted murder of fellow surgeon Graeme Perks. The incident occurred on January 14, 2021, when Brooks broke into Perks’ Nottinghamshire home wearing camouflage attire, armed with a crowbar, petrol cans, matches, and a knife. He stabbed Perks in the abdomen and attempted to set the house on fire. The attack was motivated by Brooks’ grudge against Perks, who had provided evidence in a disciplinary hearing that could have jeopardized Brooks’ employment at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. Despite the severity of his injuries, Perks survived after multiple surgeries and a medically induced coma. Brooks was later found with hand injuries and had a history of manipulative behavior, including multiple hunger strikes during legal proceedings. The trial concluded with Brooks convicted on charges including attempted murder and arson with intent to endanger life. Perks expressed forgiveness, focusing on his family’s ordeal and gratitude for their safety.
