Elon musk just made his severe political threat since the election

Elon Musk’s post on X (formerly Twitter) Monday came at a critical moment in the Senate debate over Trump’s “Big, Beautiful Bill,” a sweeping tax-and-spending package dubbed the “One Big Beautiful Bill” (OBBBA or BBB). He sharply condemned legislators who campaigned on fiscal restraint yet voted for what he called “the biggest debt increase in history,” warning:

“Every member of Congress who campaigned on reducing government spending and then immediately voted for the biggest debt increase in history should hang their head in shame! And they will lose their primary next year if it is the last thing I do on this Earth.”

📉 What’s in the “Big, Beautiful Bill”?

The package includes larger tax breaks (extending the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, increasing SALT deductions, adding deductions for tips and overtime, etc.) and deep spending cuts to Medicaid and SNAP.

It also raises military and defense funding, increases the debt ceiling by $4–5 trillion, and rescinds clean‑energy credits .

According to the nonpartisan CBO, the House version would add about $2.4 trillion to the deficit by 2034 (later revised to as much as $2.8T), while Senate modifications could tip the total rise to $4–5 trillion .

Why Musk is furious

  1. Fiscal concerns — Musk labeled it “insane spending,” “utterly insane,” and a “disgusting abomination,” calling out Republicans he views as hypocritical .
  2. Green-energy rollback — The bill would eliminate tax credits for electric vehicles, a sector Musk is heavily invested in; its removal likely affects Tesla and similar companies .
  3. Loss of political alignment — Once a key Trump donor and ally, Musk has since broken sharply with the former president—threatening federal contract cuts and suggesting publicly that their relationship has disintegrated .

What Musk is threatening

Political retribution — He vowed to support primary challengers to any House or Senate member who backs the bill, saying they “will lose their primary next year if it is the last thing I do on this Earth” .

Calls for a new party — He mockingly referred to the GOP as the “PORKY PIG PARTY” and said it’s time for “a new political party that actually cares about the people” .

Musk stressed this is a promise backed by serious financial clout—his America PAC funded Trump’s 2024 run with about $240 million, and while he said he would dial back, he retains significant political influence .

📌 Bottom Line

The Senate is sprinting to pass the bill ahead of the July 4 deadline amid growing GOP dissent (e.g., Rand Paul, Thom Tillis) .

Musk’s threat marks his most explicit political intervention to date, blending fiscal critique with branding his challenge in future primaries.

If he follows through, his involvement—both rhetorical and financial—could reshape internal Republican dynamics in the 2026 primaries.
