Emotional Paul Pogba Signs for AS Monaco After 1 Year, 9 Months Out

Paul Pogba was visibly emotional and could not hold back tears as he officially signed for AS Monaco, marking his long-awaited return to club football after nearly two years on the sidelines.

The 32-year-old midfielder had been out of competitive action since September 3, 2023, following a doping suspension for testing positive for DHEA, a banned substance. Initially handed a four-year ban, it was later reduced to 18 months, allowing him to return to professional play by March 2025. Despite regaining eligibility, Pogba remained unattached to any club until June 2025, when Monaco offered him a fresh start.

This move to Ligue 1 brings Pogba back to France, where he began his youth career, and gives him a chance to revive his football journey. Sources close to the player say the emotional reaction stemmed from “the hardship, the doubt, and the longing to return to the game he loves.”

With Monaco preparing for a competitive season ahead, Pogba’s experience and determination could be a valuable asset—both on and off the pitch.
