BBNaija S10 Faces Backlash After Shocking Breast-Sucking Incident

Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) Season 10, themed “Battle of Bonds,” has been thrust into the spotlight following a shocking incident during a Saturday night “Truth or Dare” game, where a housemate was dared to suck another’s breast on live television. The provocative moment, aired on August 2, 2025, during the show’s second week, has sparked outrage, debates on morality, and calls for stricter regulations, reigniting memories of a similar 2017 controversy involving evicted housemate CocoIce. The incident has dominated social media, with fans and critics clashing over its implications for Nigeria’s most-watched reality show.

The incident occurred in the BBNaija house, broadcast live on DStv Channel 198 and GOtv Channel 49, when housemate Kayode, a 31-year-old DJ from Lagos, was dared to perform the act on Isabella, a 29-year-old actress and mother. According to eyewitness accounts from the show’s 24/7 live stream, Isabella consented, asking, “Which one?” before Kayode briefly engaged in the act for approximately 15 seconds, prompting gasps and laughter from other housemates. The moment, captured in a clip shared widely on X, triggered immediate backlash, with @NaijaGist tweeting, “BBNaija has gone too far! Breast-sucking on live TV? What are we teaching our youth? #BBNaijaS10”.

The controversy echoes a 2017 incident when housemate CocoIce allowed Bassey to suck her breast during a similar game, defending it as “just a game” with no regrets despite her eviction. Unlike 2017, however, the 2025 incident has drawn sharper criticism due to heightened public sensitivity to explicit content on BBNaija, a show already criticized for promoting nudity and immorality. The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), which in 2019 called BBNaija an “abomination” and urged a ban, issued a statement on August 3, labeling the incident “a new low” and demanding the show’s suspension for “corrupting Nigerian values”.

MultiChoice, the show’s organizer, responded on August 4, stating, “Big Brother Naija is an adult reality show where housemates’ actions reflect their personal choices. We are reviewing the incident to ensure compliance with our guidelines.” The statement failed to quell public anger, with @EagleEyeNG tweeting, “MultiChoice is dodging responsibility. BBNaija needs stricter rules, not excuses! #BanBBNaija”. Others, like @AfrobeatsVibe, defended the housemates, posting, “It’s a game, and they’re adults. Why the outrage when it’s consensual? Let’s move on. #BBNaija”.

The incident has renewed calls for regulatory action from the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), which fined MultiChoice N5 million in 2020 for similar explicit content. Media analyst Funke Alade told The PUNCH, “BBNaija thrives on controversy to drive viewership, but this crosses ethical lines. The NBC must enforce stricter content guidelines.” Meanwhile, fans noted the show’s cultural pull, with @LagosVibes arguing, “BBNaija reflects society’s complexities. You can’t ban reality for being real”.

Season 10, which premiered on July 26, 2025, with 30 housemates competing for a N150 million grand prize, has already faced scrutiny for its “pair dynamics” twist and lackluster social media buzz compared to past seasons. The incident risks further alienating viewers, with some, like @TruthSeekerNG, tweeting, “BBNaija is losing its spark. This breast-sucking drama feels like a desperate ratings grab”. Kayode and Isabella, part of the “Firecrackers” pair, face potential sanctions, with Big Brother set to address the incident in a disciplinary hearing on August 6.
