TRF Claims Responsibility for Attacks on Indian Soldiers Near LoC

The Resistance Front (TRF), a Pakistan-based militant group designated as a terrorist organization by India and the United States, claimed responsibility for a deadly attack on Indian soldiers patrolling near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, where an Agniveer jawan was killed and two others, including a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO), were injured in a landmine blast on Friday, July 25, 2025. The attack, reported by X users @IndiaWarZone and @FrustIndian, has heightened fears of renewed violence in the volatile region, with some posts labeling it an “act of war.”

The incident occurred during an area domination patrol in the Krishna Ghati sector, when a landmine detonated, killing Agniveer Lalit Kumar of the 7 JAT Regiment and wounding two others, who were evacuated to a military hospital and are stable, according to the Indian Army’s White Knight Corps. The Corps paid tribute on X, stating, “GOC White Knight Corps and all ranks pay solemn tribute to Agniveer Lalit Kumar, who made the supreme sacrifice.” TRF claimed the attack on Telegram, describing it as retaliation for India’s counterterrorism operations, though Indian officials have not officially confirmed TRF’s involvement.

The attack follows a pattern of TRF aggression, including the April 22, 2025, Pahalgam attack, which killed 26 tourists and was initially claimed by TRF before a retraction citing “cyber intrusion.” India considers TRF, an offshoot of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), responsible despite the retraction. The group, banned under India’s Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in 2023, has targeted security forces, civilians, and minorities in Jammu and Kashmir, with prior attacks like the April 2020 Keran sector clash that killed five Indian paracommandos. India’s push to designate TRF as a UN-listed terrorist group intensified after the Pahalgam attack, with evidence presented to the UN Security Council’s 1267 Sanctions Committee in May 2025.

The incident has reignited India-Pakistan tensions, with India accusing Pakistan of supporting TRF, a charge Islamabad denies. Social media reactions on X, including @TimesAlgebraIND’s post on TRF’s US terrorist designation, reflect public alarm, while @avarakai speculated on external actors amid regional instability. The attack comes weeks after a May 10 ceasefire brokered by the US following India’s Operation Sindoor, which targeted militant sites in Pakistan after Pahalgam. Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, speaking in Srinagar, vowed a “robust response” to any further provocations, while Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry urged restraint, denying involvement.
