🇳🇬 Nigerian National Captured on Battlefield
Russia accused of using foreign nationals as expendable manpower in ongoing conflict.
Ukrainian military sources have confirmed the capture of Kehinde Oluwagbemileke, a Nigerian man reportedly fighting alongside Russian forces in the ongoing war against Ukraine.
According to reports, Oluwagbemileke was seized during a frontline engagement, raising further concerns over Russia’s recruitment of foreign nationals — many of whom are believed to be mercenaries or economically vulnerable individuals drawn from Africa and Asia.
💬 “They Are Cheap Manpower”
A Ukrainian intelligence report described the foreign fighters as “cheap manpower” used by Russia to bulk up its forces while minimizing domestic military losses.
“All of them are cheap manpower, which is not spared,” the report bluntly stated, suggesting that captured fighters like Oluwagbemileke were poorly equipped, undertrained, and considered expendable by their commanders.
🌍 Growing Trend of African Recruits
Analysts have pointed to an increasing number of African nationals — particularly from Nigeria, Zimbabwe, Somalia, and Cameroon — being enlisted into the Russian military. Many are lured by promises of money, Russian citizenship, or protection, only to find themselves on the frontlines of a brutal war.
🇺🇦 Ukrainian authorities say captured foreign fighters will be interrogated and processed under international humanitarian law.
