Abure-led faction slams ADC coalition as “power mongers,” accuses Obi of dual loyalty

The Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party (LP) has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Peter Obi, the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, demanding that he formally resign from the party.

This follows Obi’s unveiling on Wednesday as a major figure in a new opposition coalition platform spearheaded by the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The coalition aims to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election.

In a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja, LP’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, described the coalition as a “gathering of power mongers” and accused Obi of holding dual political loyalty.

“We are aware of several nocturnal meetings between Peter Obi and some of our members, lobbying them to join him in his new party. We’re also aware that a number of them have refused to defect with him,” Ifoh said.
