Teen Pilot Detained in Chile Over Unauthorized Antarctica Landing
A teenage pilot trying to become the youngest person to fly solo across all seven continents ran into trouble over the weekend when Chilean authorities detained him.
The issue? He changed his flight plan without permission and made an unauthorized landing in Antarctica, which falls under Chile’s air control for that region.
Officials said the pilot did not follow proper aviation procedures, especially since Antarctica is a highly restricted and sensitive zone. Any route changes in such areas must be cleared in advance.
He was briefly held by Chilean authorities but has since been released, pending further investigation.
Despite the setback, the young aviator still hopes to continue his global journey — although this incident might slow things down.
