Police to Discipline Officers After Viral Angela Okorie Escort Video

Nollywood actress Angela Okorie has ignited a firestorm of controversy after a viral video surfaced showing her jogging on a Lagos street flanked by two armed police officers. The clip, reportedly from the set of her upcoming film Queen of Guns, has drawn sharp criticism from the public and a stern rebuke from the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), which has launched an investigation into the officers’ “unprofessional” conduct.

Viral Video Stirs Debate

The video, which spread rapidly across social media platforms like Instagram and X, captures Okorie, 39, jogging in a white tracksuit while two uniformed officers, carrying rifles, trail closely behind. Initially shared as a behind-the-scenes glimpse of Queen of Guns, the footage shifted attention from the actress to the officers, prompting questions about the misuse of police resources. A TikTok post by Okorie, captioned “Queen of Guns, Day 1 shoot,” suggested the scene was part of the film’s production, but the sight of armed officers jogging with a celebrity sparked widespread backlash.

Public reaction on X was swift and divided. User @halimah__jinadu criticized the NPF’s priorities, writing, “People are dying, soldiers are being slaughtered, and Angela is who you want to waste resources investigating?” Others, like @fizzy_pisanta, defended the officers, noting they might be from the Special Protection Unit (SPU) assigned to Okorie due to her status. @ayo_janny took a jab at Okorie’s personal life, linking the incident to her rumored relationship with oil magnate Ned Nwoko, calling it “the handiwork of kekere husband.”

Police Condemn Officers’ Conduct

The NPF responded on Wednesday, June 25, with a statement from Force Public Relations Officer ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, condemning the officers’ actions as “clearly inconsistent with the professional standards and decorum expected” of police personnel. The statement clarified that while the video appeared to be filmed on or near a movie set, the officers’ behavior fell short of expectations, sparking “widespread public concern and criticism.” The NPF has initiated a probe to identify the officers and determine whether their involvement was scripted or a misuse of authority, with disciplinary action promised based on the findings.

“While it remains unclear whether the scene was part of a scripted production, the conduct of the officers seen in the video falls short of the standards expected,” Adejobi said, emphasizing the force’s commitment to professionalism and public trust.

Okorie’s Controversial Spotlight

Okorie, known for roles in films like Holy Serpent and Heart of a Widow, has yet to comment publicly on the controversy. The actress, who won the 2015 City People Entertainment Award for Best Supporting Actress, is no stranger to headlines. Recently, she made waves with a public feud involving actresses Mercy Johnson and Regina Daniels, as well as claims of a new relationship with Nwoko, which she addressed in a romantic Instagram video. Her bold demand of a ₦1 billion fee from potential suitors also stirred online chatter earlier this week.

The jogging incident recalls a 2019 scare when Okorie was reportedly hospitalized after her car was attacked by armed men, an event that raised concerns about her safety. While some speculate the police escort may be tied to ongoing security needs, others argue that using state resources for a film shoot is unjustifiable.

Public and Official Backlash

The video has fueled broader debates about the allocation of police resources in Nigeria, where security challenges like banditry and kidnappings persist. @OluwafemiO78855 tweeted, “These officers were likely assigned by higher authorities. Why use police when celebrities can hire private security?” @Manji1oflankan added, “We don’t have enough policemen to protect communities, yet they’re jogging with actresses. This rubbish needs to stop.”

The NPF’s swift response reflects sensitivity to public criticism, especially after recent controversies over police conduct. The force’s statement urged Nigerians to avoid speculation, but the incident has amplified calls for accountability. As the investigation unfolds, Okorie’s Queen of Guns shoot has inadvertently cast a spotlight on the intersection of celebrity privilege and public resources, leaving many to question where the line should be drawn.
