Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Sunday, June 8, 2025, officially commissioned three new train sets for the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line at the National Theatre Station, effectively doubling the lineโ€™s passenger capacity .

Each newly unveiled set comprises four modern cars, bringing the total additional capacity to 12 coaches. With this rollout, trains on the Blue Line are now slated to arrive every 10 minutes, a major leap toward meeting global urban transit standards .

This expansion is projected to directly benefit thousands of Lagos commuters by cutting wait times, shortening journey durations by up to 50%, and enhancing overall service reliability across the corridor .

Governor Sanwo-Olu used the occasion to express his gratitude to President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Government for their financial and logistical support, which were instrumental in procuring the new coaches under Tinubuโ€™s โ€œRenewed Hope Agendaโ€ .

Looking ahead, more high-capacity train sets for the LRMT Red Line are expected before year-end, and construction on Phase 2 of the Blue Line (Mile 2 to Okokomaiko) is already progressing steadilyโ€”underscoring Lagosโ€™ commitment to transforming urban mobility through sustained infrastructure investment .
