Drug-Affected Man Dies After Jumping into Well in Kwara

A tragic incident occurred in Ilorin, Kwara State, on June 6, 2025, when a 43-year-old man identified as Kazeem died after jumping into a domestic well under the influence of a hard drug known as “Colorado.” The incident took place in the Ile Alapo area of Edun, Ilorin metropolis, shortly after Kazeem returned from Eid prayers. The Kwara State Fire Service received a distress call at approximately 10:29 AM and promptly recovered his lifeless body from the well. The body was subsequently handed over to the police for further investigation .

The Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, expressed deep sadness over the incident and urged residents to avoid drug abuse, emphasizing that such actions often lead to tragic outcomes. This incident highlights the growing concerns over the abuse of “Colorado,” a synthetic drug cocktail that has been linked to several recent fatalities in Nigeria.

In a similar incident in Lagos State, a 45-year-old man also died after taking “Colorado” and jumping into a river at Odo Tente, a boundary community between Lagos and Ogun States. The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident, stating that the man drowned after running uncontrollably and jumping into the river.

These incidents underscore the urgent need for increased awareness and preventive measures to combat the misuse of synthetic drugs like “Colorado,” which pose significant risks to public health and safety.
