Wike Identifies Top Challenge in His Role as FCT Minister

FCT Minister Wike Opens Up on His Toughest Challenge

Nyesom Wike, Nigeria’s Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has identified the nation’s procurement law as a significant challenge hindering timely project execution in Abuja. He noted that while the law aims to protect public funds, it often causes delays, with some procurements taking up to four months for approval. Wike emphasized the need for reform to remove bureaucratic bottlenecks and accelerate development in the capital city.

Additionally, Wike has expressed concerns over the distortion of Abuja’s Master Plan by elites, particularly in affluent areas like Asokoro and Maitama. He pledged to take decisive action against such violations, stating that only a strong-willed leader can enforce necessary reforms.

Despite these challenges, Wike remains committed to transforming Abuja into a modern, well-planned city, aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda.
