Paul Doyle, a 53-year-old man from West Derby, Liverpool, has been charged with multiple serious offenses following a tragic incident during Liverpool FC’s Premier League victory parade on May 26, 2025. The event occurred around 6 p.m. on Water Street in Liverpool city center, where a grey Ford Galaxy driven by Doyle collided with a crowd of fans celebrating the team’s title win. The crash resulted in 79 injuries, including four children, with 27 individuals hospitalized—two of whom, including one child, were in serious condition.
Doyle faces seven charges:
- One count of dangerous driving
- Two counts of unlawful and malicious wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm
- Two counts of causing unlawful and malicious grievous bodily harm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm
- Two counts of attempted unlawful and malicious grievous bodily harm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm
Investigators believe Doyle accessed the area by following an ambulance that had temporarily lifted a roadblock, allowing him to enter Water Street. Eyewitnesses reported that the vehicle initially stopped after striking pedestrians but then accelerated again, hitting more individuals. Authorities have confirmed that the incident was not terror-related and that Doyle acted alone
Doyle is scheduled to appear at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court on May 30, 2025. The incident has garnered widespread attention, with public figures expressing support for the victims and the community. King Charles III and Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer have both issued statements of solidarity, and Princess Anne visited the Royal Liverpool University Hospital to meet with the injured and medical staff
