Eyewitness: Liverpool Crash Victim ‘Pleaded with Driver to Stop’
During the Liverpool FC Premier League victory parade on May 26, 2025, a tragic incident unfolded when a vehicle drove into a crowd on Water Street, injuring 65 people, including four children. Among the injured was Daniel Eveson from Telford, who recounted the harrowing experience of being struck by the car, which also ran over his partner and dragged their baby boy, Teddy, in his pram. Fortunately, the baby survived, and Eveson managed to secure both his partner and child amidst the chaos. Witnesses described scenes of “pure terror” as the vehicle, identified as a grey Ford Galaxy, deliberately forced its way through the crowd. Several people, including a child, were trapped underneath before being rescued by firefighters.
The driver, a 53-year-old white British man from West Derby, Liverpool, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder, dangerous driving, and driving while unfit through drugs. Police believe he tailgated an ambulance through a temporarily opened roadblock to access the closed parade route. Authorities have confirmed that the act is not being treated as terrorism-related and believe the suspect acted alone. Emergency responders were praised for their swift actions, and the public has been urged not to speculate or circulate distressing content online.
The incident has drawn widespread condemnation and concern. King Charles III expressed his shock and extended sympathies to the victims, while Princess Anne visited medical staff treating the injured. Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Home Secretary Yvette Cooper also conveyed their support, with Cooper visiting the scene to meet with emergency personnel .The investigation is ongoing, with police reviewing CCTV footage to understand how the vehicle accessed the restricted area.
