Drunken Danfo Driver Injures 4 in Lagos Crash
On Sunday, May 25, 2025, a serious accident occurred in the Alausa area of Ikeja, Lagos, when a commercial bus (Danfo) with registration number KTU 69 YJ crashed into a streetlight pole. The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) reported that the driver was heavily intoxicated, leading to the loss of control and subsequent collision.
Four passengers sustained significant injuries, including a couple seated in the middle row, along with another male and female passenger. LASTMA operatives and officers from the Alausa Division of the Nigeria Police Force responded promptly, providing emergency care at the scene. The injured were then transferred to the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS) and subsequently taken to the Trauma and Emergency Centre at the Toll Gate for specialized treatment.
LASTMA’s General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, condemned the driver’s reckless behavior and emphasized the agency’s commitment to combating alcohol-impaired driving through ongoing advocacy and surveillance. He reiterated the importance of their campaign: “Don’t Drink and Drive.”
The incident highlights the dangers of driving under the influence and underscores the need for continued public awareness and enforcement of traffic safety regulations.
