JOINT ADMISSION AND MATRICULATION BOARD (JAMB) AS RESCHEDULE A DATE TO REWRITE JAMB

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that approximately 379,997 candidates will retake the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) due to errors identified in the examination process. JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, publicly acknowledged the mistakes and expressed deep regret during a press conference on May 14, 2025. He stated, “I apologise and take full responsibility, not just in words,” and emphasized that the errors were a combination of human oversight and technical issues.

The affected candidates are from 157 centres across six states: Lagos, Imo, Anambra, Abia, Ebonyi, and Oyo. The retake examinations are scheduled to commence from Friday, May 16, 2025. Candidates will be contacted via text messages, emails, and phone calls to reprint their examination slips.

The announcement has sparked significant public outcry, with some stakeholders, including the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), threatening legal action over the mass failure. ASUU has expressed concerns that the errors disproportionately affected candidates from the South East region, potentially hindering their access to tertiary education.

In response to the crisis, JAMB has pledged to learn from the incident and improve its processes to prevent future occurrences. The board remains committed to transparency, fairness, and equity in its operations.

For more information and updates, affected candidates are advised to regularly check JAMB’s official communication channels.
